Privacy Policy
Effective October 4, 2026
The Class We Missed (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides free educational lessons about women’s biology and health at theclasswemissed.com (together with our forms and learning tools, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
Contents
1. Our approach to privacy
The Services are built so that you can learn without giving us personal information. In particular:
- You can read every lesson and take every quiz without an account.
- We do not ask for, collect or store information about your health, your cycle or your body.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
- We do not use advertising or analytics trackers on the Services.
2. Information we collect
Information stored on your device
The Services save your learning progress in your browser’s local storage. This includes which lessons you have completed, your quiz scores and which questions you have seen, and display preferences such as whether the lesson menu is collapsed. This information stays on your device. We do not receive it, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Information you give us
If you offer to volunteer, we collect your name, email address, professional role, how you would like to help, your area of expertise (optional) and any note you choose to add.
Please do not include sensitive personal information, such as health details, in a note.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting provider, Vercel Inc., processes standard server logs when you visit the Services. These typically include your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, the referring page, and the date and time of each request. We use this information only to deliver the Services, keep it secure and diagnose problems. See Vercel’s privacy policy.
3. How we use information
- To provide, maintain and secure the Services.
- To contact volunteers about opportunities and to coordinate their help.
- To prevent spam and abuse of our forms.
- To comply with legal obligations and to protect our rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on your consent for volunteer sign-ups, which you can withdraw at any time, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing the Services for server logs.
4. How we share information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:
- Service providers. Vercel hosts the Services. Google LLC provides the spreadsheet and script tools where volunteer sign-ups are stored. These providers process information on our behalf under their own terms and privacy commitments.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or us.
- Business changes. If the project is transferred to another organization, information may transfer with it, subject to this policy.
Volunteer information is accessible only to the people who run The Class We Missed.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
The Services do not set cookies for advertising, analytics or tracking. They use your browser’s local storage, as described above, to remember your progress and preferences. These features are needed for the Services to work the way you expect. Because we do not track you across websites, “Do Not Track” signals do not change how the Services behave. Some lessons include YouTube videos. A video loads only after you press play, from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain. After that, YouTube may receive your IP address and set cookies under its own policy. Sites we link to may use their own cookies.
6. Children’s privacy
The Services are for a general audience, and children under 13 may read lessons and take quizzes as guests. We do not require registration and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Our volunteer form is for people aged 18 and older. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. How long we keep information
We keep volunteer information until you ask us to delete it, or until it is no longer needed for the purpose you gave it, and then we delete it. Information in your browser’s local storage stays on your device until you clear it. Server logs are kept by Vercel according to its own retention practices.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and restricting access to the people who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your choices and rights
You may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct information that is inaccurate;
- delete your information;
- stop contacting you, or withdraw a consent you gave; and
- restrict or object to how we use your information, where the law gives you that right.
These rights apply in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California and other places with similar laws, and we will honor reasonable requests from anyone. We will respond within the time the law requires. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by California law. If you are in the EEA or the UK and are unhappy with how we handle your information, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
10. International users and data transfers
We operate from the United States, and the providers named above process information in the United States and other countries. If you use the Services from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed there. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers, such as standard contractual clauses used by our providers.
11. Links to other sites
The Services link to other websites, including our blog on Substack, the sources we cite, and the donation page of an independent research organization. We do not receive or process donations, and we do not control other sites. Their privacy practices are their own, so please review their policies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services change, for example when we add accounts. We will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change materially affects how we use information you gave us, we will tell you before it takes effect.
